The preliminary round of the FIVB World Championships will kick off on Thursday, with the Philippines taking on Tunisia at the Mall of Asia Arena. The Philippine Aces and the Eagles of Carthage are joined in Pool A by Iran and Egypt. Let’s get into the match prediction.

The Philippines will be making their debut at the FIVB World Championships this year and enter the tournament ranked 82nd according to the latest FIVB World Rankings. 

In the lead-up to this competition, the Philippine Aces faced Portugal in three friendlies last month but lost all of them. Prior to that, they finished 10th at the AVC Men’s Volleyball Nations Cup. 

Now under the leadership of Italian coach Angiolino Frigoni, the Philippines have a record of four wins and six defeats in their last 10 matches across all competitions. 

Meanwhile, Tunisia are set to feature in their seventh straight World Championships campaign and will be hoping to improve on the 16th-place finish they managed back in 2022. 

The Eagles of Carthage are ranked 43rd globally and have an experienced roster featuring the likes of Ahmed Kadhi and Selim Mbareki, who were part of the team at the 2020 Olympics. 

Under Camilo Placi’s guidance, the African nation went unbeaten in four games leading up to the competition, which included a 3-0 victory over 36th-ranked Spain.
