Unseeded Peyton Stearns and Nikola Bartunkova will face off in the opening round of this year’s Wimbledon Championships. This is their first career meeting, and with Stearns losing seven of 11 career grass-court matches, this prediction won’t back her.

Stearns has never won a match at Wimbledon. The American, who is appearing in this event for the fourth time, has exited in the first round for three consecutive years.

Generally, Stearns isn’t a strong grass player, and this will be another tough encounter coming her way. Her most recent loss on grass was last week as she exited the event in Eastbourne in the second round.

Stearns starts the week as the WTA world number 63.

Nikola Bartunkova is making her Wimbledon debut and will hope her strong form on grass carries her deeper in the tournament. The 20-year-old, who had never competed on grass before this season, has won six of nine fixtures on this surface.

Two of those victories were recorded in Berlin last week, where she earned a quarter-final finish. A finalist in Birmingham to start off the grass campaign, Bartunkova comes into the week having dropped to 50th in the live ranking.

The Czech star is making her third Slam appearance. She debuted at a major in Melbourne and had a strong performance, making it to the third round as a qualifier.
