Twelfth seed Petra Kvitova and the wildcard Xiyu Wang will on Sunday play each other at the China Open first round. The winner will then advance to play either Alycia Parks or Liudmila Samsonova in the second round. Petra Kvitova is back in Beijing after a four-year hiatus. She will hope to go one better than her best ever result here which was a runner-up finish back in 2014. Her form on hard court will have her confident of, at the very least, winning this round. Kvitova has played the majority of her matches on hard courts where she has compiled a 21-9 record. The Czech, ranked 14th in the WTA, arrives here after her quarterfinal elimination at the Ningbo Open.
Xiyu Wang is in excellent form at the moment and has won five of her last six matches. Her last match however ended in defeat as she was eliminated from the Ningbo Open in the first round. Wang was unable to replicate her title triumph in Guangzhou which she will hope to do here. The 22-year-old is up one place to 57th in the live ranking. Wang has had a rocky season and has won just four more matches than the 23 she has lost. On hard court however is where she has been at her best, winning 17 times on the surface. Wang is also returning to Beijing after being away for four years.
