This 2025-26 Challenge Cup opener will see Connacht Rugby travel to face Ospreys on Sunday in all-URC clash. Can the Westerners overcome their hosts and start their campaign with victory? Here is our prediction.
Ospreys crashed out of the Challenge Cup last season in quarterfinals after falling by just two points to Lyon. They are struggling for results in the United Rugby Championship this season, falling to win five of their six games. This includes a 19-17 defeat to Edinburgh in their last fixture.
Nevertheless, the Swansea-based side has been largely indomitable in their European home games. They have won six of of their last seven Challenge Cup home fixtures and four of their last six home matchups with Connacht Rugby.
Connacht Rugby ended their three-match losing streak in the United Rugby Championship by defeating Sharks 44-17 last week. Their last season’s Challenge Cup campaign ended in the quarterfinals following a 40-43 defeat to Racing 92.
Notably, Stuart Lancaster’s side has not impressed in their recent road games. They head into this match with six defeats in their last seven away games.
