Novak Djokovic is making relentless progress in his bid to win a tenth Australian Open title. He takes on unseeded American Tommy Paul for a place in the final against either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Karen Khachanov. Djokovic is the fourth seed for this tournament and is up to second in the live rankings. If he can win the title on Sunday he'll be back as the world number one, a position we all know he deserves. The nine-time champion will also equal the record number of Grand Slam men's singles titles, currently held by Rafael Nadal. The quarter finals saw Djokovic get a comfortable straight sets win over Andrey Rublev. He's only dropped one set so far and hasn't lost a singles match in the Australian Open since 2018.
Tommy Paul is in his first Grand Slam semi-final and up to a career high 19th in the rankings, 16 places higher than at the start of this Australian Open. A win over Djokovic would take him up to 15th. Paul would also become the first American to reach the final in Melbourne since Andre Agassi 20 years ago. The 25-year-old had never previously made it past round three of this Grand Slam and it's only his second time past the last 16 of one. That didn't look likely when two sets to one down to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round. He battled back and since then has beaten Roberto Bautista Agut and two fellow-Americans, Jenson Brooksby and in the quarter finals, unseeded Ben Shelton. This is his first match against Djokovic and a straight sets loss looks likely.
