Top seed Novak Djokovic remains on course to win a record-extending 11th Australian Open title. He takes on the 12th seed Taylor Fritz in the quarter finals. The winner will face either fourth seed Jannik Sinner of fifth seeded Andrey Rublev in the last eight. Djokovic has been improving as this first Grand Slam of the year has progressed. The first two rounds of this tournament saw him drop a set against qualifier Dino Prizmic and unseeded Australian Alexei Popyrin. He's gone up a few gears since then and had two consecutive straight sets victories. Round three saw him beat 30th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry for the loss of 12 games, half in the third set tie-break. It was even easier in round four as Djokovic beat 20th seeded Adrian Mannarino. He only dropped three games, all in the third set.

Taylor Fritz is attempting to reach only his third Grand Slam quarter final. He's never made it past that stage and his best in Australia is the fourth round he reached last year. The American was ranked 12th at the start of this tournament and is up to ninth in the live rankings. Fritz is playing Djokovic for the ninth time and he's still waiting for his first victory. Five of those losses have come on hard courts, including two last year. The most recent defeat was in last year's US Open quarter final. In this tournament, Fritz has dropped four sets but had a good win over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the last 16. We tip Djokovic to win this match in straight sets.
