Fourth seed Novak Djokovic is up against second seeded Daniil Medvedev in the Astana Open semi-final. The winner of this match faces either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Andrey Rublev in the final. Both of these players are looking more than likely to qualify for the ATP Tour Finals. Medvedev is in fifth place with Djokovic in 11th but as a 2022 Grand Slam winner will get through if in the top 20 after the Paris Masters. Djokovic won the Tel Aviv tournament last week and has won three of his last four tournaments with one loss to Rafael Nadal in Paris. This week has seen him make smooth progress with no sets lost in his three matches and only 13 games, seven of those lost were in his quarter final win over Karen Khachanov.

Like his opponent, Daniil Medvedev has spent time at the top of the rankings this year. He's now down to fourth with Djokovic in seventh. Medvedev has only won one title this year, that was a success in Los Cabos in August. Since then he's played four tournaments before this week with his best performance being a semi-final in the US Open. Last week saw him lose to Stan Wawrinks but he's shown much better form this week. He's had victories over Albert Ramos Vinolas, Emil Russuvouri and Roberto Bautista Agut. Djokovic leads 6-4 in previous meetings with the Serb winning two of the last three The most recent meeting was in the Paris Masters last year. Seven of the last eight matches between them have seen both players win a set. Djokovic appears to be in the better form, back him to win this.
