Northampton Saints won the league and play-off final last season. The new season didn't start well though and they are bottom of the table after being beaten at Bath. Now t hey host seventh placed Exeter Chiefs. Here's our match prediction.
The Saints beat Bath to win the play-off final last season but were no match for them last weekend. They were beaten 38-16 by the side that were runners-up to them in both the league and play-off final last term.
Back on home soil, the Saints will be much more confident of getting a first win of the season. They won eight of their nine home league games last season, the only loss coming against Bristol in October 2023.
In league and cup games, Northampton have won their last 13 matches. They beat Exeter home and away last season, including a 34-19 home success last November.
Exeter Chiefs also made a losing start to the new season. They lost 17-14 at home to Leicester Tigers, failing to score in the first half and trailing by three points. That was a disappointing start to the new season as they had an excellent home record last term.
They finished seventh in the regular season with ten wins and eight defeats. That saw them miss out on the play-offs by six points. Qualification had looked likely but they lost three of their final five matches.
