Friday’s first round action at the 2025 European Darts Championship kicks off with Niko Springer taking on Jermaine Wattimena in Dortmund. The winner of this match between Meenzer Bub and the Machine Gun will meet either Josh Rock or Ricardo Pietreczko in the second round. Let’s get into the match prediction.
Niko Springer will be one of three players who will be making their European Darts Championship debut this year, and he enters the tournament as the number nine seed.
The Lad from Mainz has had an excellent year, in which he won his first European title in Hungary, beating the likes of Danny Noppert, Luke Humphries and Josh Rock. He also made the final of the Dutch Darts Championship.
Springer lost to Stephen Bunting in the round of 16 at the Players Championship 32 last week and is now 5-5 in his last 10 matches across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Jermaine Wattimena will be hoping to go one better in this competition than he did last year, when he was beaten in a thrilling final by outsider Ritchie Edhouse.
The Machine Gun has enjoyed a solid season, winning two Players Championships, including PC31 this month, while he also ran Luke Littler to the wire at the World Matchplay.
Wattimena reached the quarter-final of the German Darts Championship last week and has only lost two of his last 17 matches in all competitions.
