New Zealand and France are going to get to know each other rather well in the next couple of weeks. The two nations are facing each other in three Test matches on New Zealand soil. Here's our prediction for the first of the three matches.
It's an important time for New Zealand as they prepare for the next Rugby Championship. That sees them facing Argentina and Australia with the first of six matches taking place on August 16. These three matches against France will hopefully be excellent preparation for the All-Blacks.
Les Bleus are probably still celebrating winning the 2025 Six Nations. They haven't played an international fixture since beating Scotland in March to clinch that title. These three matches against New Zealand will be a big test for them as they prepare to defend their Six Nations title next year. As you will read in the form section of this preview, France will want to continue their impressive run of results against New Zealand.

New Zealand - France: Form Analysis
New Zealand are playing their first Test Match of 2025. Their last international was a win over Italy during their European tour in the final months of 2024. The All-Blacks have won six of their last seven matches.
That run began with two wins over Australia in their final two fixtures in the 2024 Rugby Championship. They finished second behind South Africa in that tournament. They then went on their travels for the rest of the year.
Wins came against Japan, England and the highlight was inflicting a rare home loss on Ireland. Their only recent loss was in France, and it was a disappointing one for them. They led by seven points at the break but ended up losing by a single point.
New Zealand have a highly impressive home record against France.
That win meant France have won their last three matches against New Zealand. However, all of those games were played in France. It's a different story when Les Bleus travel to the southern hemisphere with no win since 2009.
127 points have been scored by New Zealand in their last three home wins over France. The French side are playing their first match since winning this year's Six Nations Championship. They won four of their five matches but did lose away to England.

New Zealand & France Squad Analysis
France may have won the Six Nations this year, but a very different line-up will be facing New Zealand this weekend. They have named five debutants in their starting line-up with three more uncapped players beginning the match on the bench.
Several players are absent as they only ended their Top 14 season last weekend but are expected to be back for the remaining matches.
On the right win, Tom Spring will be making his international debut. He's joined by Joris Segonds at flyhalf with Alexandre Fischer, Giorgi Beria and Tyler Duguid also making their first international appearances.
Can a depleted French side cope against the All-Blacks?
There is still plenty of experience in the team with Gael Fickou still captaining the side and playing his 94th match for Les Bleus. Even so, fielding a depleted side in an away match against New Zealand is not exactly a recipe for success.
The All-Blacks have also made changes for this match. Four players are set to make their debuts including Ollie Norris and Fabian Holland. While that is the case, they will still have a very experienced front row in place for this match.
That should be crucial for the All-Blacks as the French side have a couple of debutants in that area.
New Zealand - France Key Points
- New Zealand have not lost at home to France since 2009.
- France will be fielding a depleted side for this match.
- New Zealand look to have a far more dominant front row than their opponents.
- New Zealand have scored 127 points in their last three home games against France.

Our New Zealand vs France Prediction
Getting good performances is far more important for New Zealand at this point in time. They are preparing for the upcoming Rugby Championship tournament and will want to win that after only finishing second last year.
They have an excellent home record against France and only lost by a point to them in their most recent away game against them. Both countries have made changes but it's the visitors who have the largest selection problems. Our New Zealand v France prediction is New Zealand to win on a -16.5 points handicap.
