Naomi Osaka will play fellow wildcard Bianca Andreescu in the quarter-finals of this year’s Libema Open. This is the second career meeting between them and the winner will play one of Dalma Galfi, Veronika Kudermetova, Aleksandra Krunic or Jessica Pegula next. Naomi Osaka is yet to drop a set in her debut in Hertogenbosch after playing two rounds. After defeating fourth seed Elise Mertens in the first round, she advanced to play fellow wildcard Suzan Lamens. She won their duel by the loss of just four games. This was win number 15 in 25 outings for the former world number one this year. Osaka, who is now up to 113th in the live ranking, returned to the tour this year after two years. She has had a quarter-final run in Doha and a fourth-round finish in Rome as her highlights for the season.

Bianca Andreescu also spent considerable time away from the tour due to injury. She made her season debut at the French Open after missing nine months. The Canadian has surprisingly not looked that much out of pace as she has won four of the five matches she has played. Andreescu is also debuting in Hertogenbosch. She began with a come-from-behind three-set victory over crowd favourite Eva Vedder. In the second round, she would be much more composed against sixth seed Yuan Yue whom she eliminated in straight sets. A former world number four, Andreescu lost to Osaka the only other time they met. This was in the quarter-finals at the China Open in 2019. Osaka would go on to lift the title in Beijing. Andreescu will hope victory for her here will set up the same trajectory as for Osaka five years ago. Advancing to the last eight has catapulted Andreescu 15 places to 213th in the live ranking.
