Second seed Petra Marcinko and wildcard Nadia Podoroska will meet for the first time, in the first round at the Iasi Open. Podoroska is the favorite in our prediction, coming here with seven wins in nine outings.

Podoroska is looking to return to winning ways and spark a deep run in this Romanian event. The Argentine, who last competed in Iasi four years ago, has lost back-to-back matches.

After a quarter-final exit in the fourth event in the San Gregorio ITF tournament, Podoroska was eliminated in the first round at Wimbledon last time out. With an amazing 22-4 record, she is ranked outside the WTA top 500.

Petra Marcinko is back in Iasi after a three-year hiatus. She is also looking to return to winning ways here. The Croatian star, who has had an inconsistent season, has lost three matches in a row.

After back-to-back losses to end the grass season, Marcinko was beaten on her return to clay, at the Contrexeville Challenger. She has compiled a 20-21 record, with seven of her defeats coming in 19 outings on clay.

Despite her inconsistencies, Marcinko is having a career year. The 20-year-old won her maiden tour title in Rabat and also had a semi-final finish at Eastbourne as a qualifier.

The winner here will face Moyuka Uchijima or an opening from the qualifying rounds for a place in the quarter-finals.
