Mozambique will look to continue their promising start to their CAF World Cup qualifiers when they play host to Algeria on Sunday. The hosts are currently second in Group G, trailing the visitors on goal difference. Ths group also features Guinea, Botswana, Uganda and Somalia. Mozambique have improved immensely over the last few years. They secured a spot in the upcoming AFCON, finishing second in their group behind Senegal. The Mambas come into this match off the back of an impressive 3-2 win over Botswana in midweek. That result marked their third consecutive game unbeaten in competitive matches, while they only lost one friendly to Nigeria in their last five in all competitions. However, their home form has not been as impressive, with just one win in their last seven, which came against Benin in September. As a result, they are clear outsiders in this one. 

Meanwhile, African powerhouses Algeria also kicked off their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign with a victory. They beat Somalia 3-1 at home in midweek, extending their recent unbeaten record to nine matches. The last time they lost a match was in the CAF Nations Championship final against Senegal, though that match required penalties to decide. The Greens are also unbeaten in their last five away games, which includes four wins and a draw. They have only failed to score in one away match in their last ten. Algeria romped through their group at the AFCON qualifiers as well, finishing eight points above second-placed Tanzania. The visitors are heavily fancied to top their group in this competition as well.
