Montenegro need a win against the already-eliminated Lithuania to stay in contention for a Euro 2024 qualification spot from Group G. The sides will meet at the Podgorica City Stadium on Thursday with the hosts five points behind top-two and the visitors fourth with six points and two points adrift of the home side. Montenegro start this round five points behind third-placed Serbia with a game in hand. They can’t qualify for the playoffs, so the only chance is to finish in the top-two and get a direct qualification spot. Their last game in the qualifiers is against current group leaders Hungary, so Montenegro have very little chances of qualification as things stand right now. Yet, a win here would keep them alive in the race until the final matchday.

Lithuania are already eliminated out of the qualification race having won just a single game out of their seven matches in this campaign. Their last game was a competitive result though, as they held current group leaders Hungary to a 2-2 draw. That made it five points from their last four matches, but defeats to Serbia and Hungary meant that they couldn’t get their campaign alive and kicking. Interestingly, their only win of this qualification campaign came on the road when they defeated Bulgaria 2-0 in the last away match. That was more of an aberration though, as Lithuania have lost six away matches on the bounce before that win.
