Matteo Berrettini bids to build on his success in winning the Marrakech title on Sunday. He faces Miomir Kecmanovic in round one of the outdoor clay court Monte Carlo Masters. Up next for the winner is a match against ninth seed Grigor Dimitrov or wild card Valentin Vaclerot. Berrettini was outside the top 130 before winning the clay court tournament in Marrakech on Sunday. The former top ten player is now 97th in the live rankings. He's fit at present which has been a bit of a rarity for him in recent years. Berrettini has played just three tournaments this year but also got to the final of a hard court Challenger Tour event this year. He had some good wins in Marrakech and with Monday off, he should be ready for this match against Kecmanovic. 

His opponent is 65th in the live rankings and 47th in the ATP Race. He didn’t make such a good start to his clay court season. Last week saw him lose to Roberto Bautista Agut in his first match in Estoril. That was his fourth straight loss so he’ll be looking for some improved form in the coming weeks. This is his fourth time in Monte Carlo and he’s lost all three of his previous matches in this Masters 1000 tournament. He also lost in the first round at Roland Garros in 2023 but did make the third round there in 2022. Kecmanovic has dropped down the rankings as he’s losing the points earned when getting to the final of the Estoril clay court tournament last year. He won his one previous match against Berrettini but that was played on an outdoor hard court. We tip Berrettini to win this match.
