No seeded players stand between fifth seed McCartney Kessler and the ATX Open quarter-finals. The first round of this outdoor hard court tournament in Austin, Texas sees her face unseeded Caty McNally. Here's our match prediction.

Next up for the winner of this match will be either unseeded Cristina Bucas or Bernarda Pera. Kessler is the world number 56 and has already won one WTA Tour event this year. That was right at the start of 2025 when winning the Hobart International with four seeds being beaten.

The 25-year-old has struggled to build on that excellent performance. Her next three matches were all lost before a return to form in Dubai where the last 16 was reached with wins over Amanda Anisimova and Coco Gauff.

Caty McNally is ranked 524th in the world and last year had elbow surgery. On her return, the 23-year-old initially struggled but then won an ITF tournament but made a disappointing start to 2025. Her first two matches were both lost, one in the first round of the Australian Open.

McNally has reached an ITF semi-final since then and has used her protected ranking to gain entry into this main draw.
