Unseeded Marton Fucsovics and 20th seed Francisco Cerundolo will on Sunday battle at the Shanghai Masters. The winner of this third-round tie will play either second seed Daniil Medvedev or 26th seed Sebastian Korda next. Marton Fucsovics won in three sets against 14th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round. The win was his 31st of the season and moved him up to 53rd in the live ranking. Fucsovics has won 17 of 27 matches on hard courts and won his only title of the season on the surface in Canberra.
Francisco Cerundolo hasn’t had the same success on hard courts as Fucsovics but is having an impressive season. He has compiled a 36-22 record and has won one tour title and finished as runner-up in another. None of the achievements however came on hard courts. The Argentine has won just one more match than the eight he has lost on the surface. His latest victory was a 2-0 success against the unseeded Mackenzie McDonald in the first round. The win was however not as straightforward and saw Cerundolo have to win two tiebreakers. Ranked 21st in the ATP, Cerundolo has won his last three matches.
