Top seed Marketa Vondrousova will battle unseeded Anhelina Kalinina in the quarter-finals of the Internationaux de Strasbourg. Marketa Vondrousova is coming off a more than two-hour battle with the qualifier Magdalena Frech to begin her campaign here. The world number six, who is making her Strasbourg debut, faced elimination in the first set as she fell 7-5. She would however regroup to win the next two sets by the loss of just one game. Vondrousova, who is a former French Open finalist, is seeking to gain momentum for the clay Grand Slam which is just days away. She has so far compiled an inconsistent 11-7 record though she did make the semi-finals in Stuttgart to start off her clay season. Vondrousova defeated Kalinina on an indoor hard court two seasons ago in the ITF circuit.

Anhelina Kalinina has won twice in three meetings with Vondrousova. Though they have never played on clay, the Ukrainian will be confident of extending her advantage in this series. She earned the head-to-head advantage in their most recent matchup which was last year in Beijing. Kalinina, who is also making her debut in this tournament, defeated the wildcard Fiona Ferro in three sets in the last round. In both matches she has played here, the 27-year-old has been forced to win a decider to progress. Now up to 52nd in the live ranking, Kalinina had lost more matches than she had won as she arrived in Strasbourg. She has now improved her record to 14-13 and is one win away from a third semi-final appearance this year. The winner here will then play third seed Danielle Collins or unseeded Clara Burel next.
