Former Wimbledon quarter finalist Alison Riske takes on Maria Bouzkova in this year's third round. The winner of this match will be up against either 33rd seed Zhang Shuai or Caroline Garcia in the last 16. Riske is the 28th seed and it was in 2019 that she got to the last eight here. Top seed Ashleigh Barty was beaten that year before losing to Serena Williams in three sets. That remains her best performance in a Grand Slam but she has a good chance of equalling that this year. Riske reached the final in the Nottingham grass court tournament this year, the second of 2022 after getting to the title decider in Adelaide in January. Wins have come this week against Yiene-In Albon and then a strange match against Maja Chwalinska in the second round. The first set was lost in that match but then the next two were won for the loss of just one game.

Maria Bouzkova is the world number 66 and in the third round at Wimbledon for the first time. Her previous best was the second round three years ago. Her only warm-up match for this tournament was at Eastbourne, where she lost to Shelby Rogers after winning the first set. Her best run of form this year came in Mexico when getting to the final in Guadlajara. The first round of this tournament saw her up against seventh seeded Danielle Collins. The first set was lost but Bouzkova fought back to win the match. Round two was a bit easier with victory over Ann Li for the loss of just three games. Riske is the more experienced of the two on this surface and can get the win to make the fourth round.
