Two unseeded players, Camila Osorio and Elina Avanesyan are set to meet at the Morocco Open first round on Monday. This will be the second meeting between the two. Osorio defeated Avanesyan on clay in their first meeting two seasons ago on home soil in Bogota. As an exceptional clay court performer, the Colombian will be confident of doubling her advantage in this fixture. Osorio, who has won over 100 matches on clay in her career, has registered nine of 15 wins this year on the surface. Five of those wins came in Bogota where she won her second title at the event to end a three-year wait for a tour crown. Osorio is coming off a second-round exit in Rome and starts the week having dropped 10 places to 74th in the live ranking.

Elina Avanesyan is having a shaky season and will hope to address her inconsistency here. She has lost more matches than she has won, compiling an 8-9 record. The Russian, who has lost three of her last four fixtures, happens to be a strong clay court performer. She has however stuttered on the surface this year and has lost three of five matches. Avanesyan is also coming off a second-round exit in Rome and starts the week in 69th place in the live ranking. The 21-year-old’s highlights of the season have been third-round finishes in Melbourne and Miami. It was the first time she had advanced as far in each of the two events. The winner from this encounter will take on either Anna Blinkova or Laura Siegemund next.
