Fresh from winning the title in Barranquilla, Nadia Podoroska has another tough match. The Argentinian faces ninth seed Magdalena Frech in round one of the hard court Monterrey Open. Here's our match prediction.

Podoroska is up to 68th in the live rankings, climbing 20 places after winning that tournament on Sunday with a win over top seed Tatjana Maria. Just like her semi-final victory, it took her three sets to get the win in the title decider.

That was her second title of the year but the first on a hard court. It was an unexpected triumph as she'd lost her last eight matches before arriving in Barranquilla. It was also her first time pas the last 32 of a hard court tournament this year.

Magdalena Frech is 45th in the live rankings and her latest tournament ended with defeat in the last 32 in Cincinnati. Her best recent form has come on clay as she reached the final in Prague last month.  There have been some good results on hard courts in 2024.

The Australian Open saw her beat Caroline Garcia before losing to Coco Gauff in the last 16. That stage was also reached in Dubai where she took Elena Rybakina to a final set. Her only previous match against Podoroska was a loss to her at Roland Garros four years ago.

We go for Nadia Podoroska to win this match and set up a second round tie against either lucky loser Lana Glushko or qualifier Kateryna Volodko.
