Magda Linette faces Linda Fruhvirtova in the final of the Chennai Open. Linette is the third seed, the only seeded player to reach the last four. Her semi-final against England's Katie Swan only lasted three games. Linette won all of those and then her opponent retired hurt. The 30-year-old began this tournament ranked 67th but is up to 50th in the live rankings and will rise a further three places if winning this final. Two WTA tour titles have been won by the Polish player, the last one being in 2020. Last month saw her reach an ITF final in Poland. This week has seen her win four matches without dropping a set and only 15 games lost. Her one meeting with Fruhvirtova was last year in Cleveland (also on a hard court) with Linette winning in straight sets.

Linda Fruhvirtova is only 17 years old and is in her first WTA tour final. The Czech player has won one ITF tournament this year and won two events on that circuit last year. This week began with her ranked  a career high 130th in the world but in the live rankings has climbed to 97th and can go up to 74th if winning this final. Fruhvirtova probably didn't imagine being in this final when going a set down in her first round match against Liang-En-shou. The 17-year-old fought back to win that and defeated seeded players in the next two rounds. Fifth seeded Rebecca Peterson was beaten in round two, followed by the second seed Varvara Gracheva in the quarter finals. The last four saw her beat unseeded Nadia Podoroska after again losing the first set. Back Linette to get the win here.
