Fifth seed Magda Linette continues with her campaign in Auckland and will next face off with the unseeded Elisabetta Cocciaretto. They will square off in the second round, with the winner playing Alexandra Eala or Petra Marcinko in the quarter-finals. Read on to find our prediction for this match.

Magda Linette has won the previous two meetings with Cocciaretto. After losing their first meeting in the final of the Abierto Tampico four seasons ago, Linette has responded sublimely.

The Pole defeated Cocciaretto in straight sets in their most recent duel at last year’s event in Merida. With this winning run in this fixture, she will be confident of prolonging her stay in Auckland this week.

Linette, who is currently in 53rd place in the live ranking, won 2-1 against Venus Williams in the first round.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto had a more assured start to this week as she won in straight sets against Alycia Parks. The Italian is making her first appearance since ending the previous campaign back in October.

Cocciaretto earned the biggest win in this series with Linette when she defeated the Pole to lift the 2022 Tampico Challenger. Despite winning that final on a hard surface, Cocciaretto isn’t a dominant hard court player.

She has lost almost the same number of fixtures as she has won when competing on hard courts. Last year, the 24-year-old ended the season with a losing record on hard courts.
