Madison Keys, the 14th seed at the French Open, will begin her campaign in the first round against unseeded Renata Zarazua. The winner of this first career meeting between the two will play Yuan Yue or Mayar Sherif next. Madison Keys is back for the 12th year in a row at Roland Garros. Since making her debut here in 2013, she has never missed an appearance. The American recorded her best result in 2018 when she made it to the semi-finals. Keys has only twice been eliminated in the opening round since her debut here. On account of her form, chances of an early exit are slim. The current world number 12 is having a superb year and is coming off a title triumph in Strasbourg. She won all her matches at the event without losing a set to achieve her first title of the season. Keys has compiled a dominant 14-5 record and has registered 11 of her wins on clay.

Renata Zarazua won her first-round tie the last time she played at the French Open main draw. This was in 2020. She will hope for a similar result as she makes her second appearance at this major. The Mexican is having a topsy-turvy season alternating between the tour and challenger circuits. She has compiled a 14-14 record with 10 of her wins coming on clay. Half of her losses have also come on clay. Zarazua has lost in the first round this season more times than in any other round at an event. She is coming off a run to the semi-finals in the Parma Challenger which is the highlight of her season. The run in Parma has propelled her up right back into the WTA top 100. She is now up five places to 97th in the live ranking.
