Unseeded Mackenzie McDonald and lucky loser Rinky Hijikata will on Friday battle in the quarterfinals of the Libema Open. The winner will face either Adrian Mannarino or the winner of the second-round tie between Jordan Thompson and Milos Raonic. McDonald arrived in Hertogenbosch on a not-so-stable run. His two wins have seen him tie his record at 15 wins and 15 losses. He defeated third seed Borna Coric in the last round and this should have him confident of winning against Hijikata. The American has boosted his world ranking by moving up two places to number 66 in the live ranking.

Hijikata has grabbed the second chance handed to him here with both hands and is one win away from the semifinals. The Australian was defeated in the qualifiers but got the chance to play in the main draw as a lucky loser. He’s however looked shaky and has lost the opening set in both his matches. To advance to this round he defeated Marc-Andrea Husler and immediately moved up eight places in the live ranking to number 125. Hijikata has so far managed a record of 22 wins and 18 losses with five of his victories coming on grass.
