Second seed Carlos Alcaraz continues with his quest for a second US Open title and will next take on 32nd seed Luciano Darderi. Their first career meeting will be in the third round. Read on to find out our prediction for this match.

Luciano Darderi debuted at Flushing Meadows last year but exited the competition without a win. On his return, he has won twice and is seeking a third to qualify for week two for the first time at a major.

The Italian defeated the qualifier Eliot Spizzirri in four sets last time out. He began his campaign with a straight-sets victory over Rinky Hijikata. Now up to 32nd in the live ranking, Darderi, who has won three tour titles on clay this year, has improved to 31-22.

Carlos Alcaraz has started his quest for another title in Flushing Meadows in dominant form. The world number two has won both of his fixtures without a set lost. He defeated Reilly Opelka in the first round, which was his toughest outing thus far, as he surrendered 13 games.

In his follow-up match, Alcaraz, who is on an eight-match winning streak, eliminated Mattia Bellucci with just four games lost.

Alcaraz has been in terrific form all through the year. He arrived in New York after being crowned champion in Cincinnati, his sixth title of the season.
