The battle for Southern California is reignited early on Sunday morning when the 28-17-10 Los Angeles Kings play host to the 20-34-2 Anaheim Ducks. A change behind the bench has paid dividends in the early going for the Kings who are 5-2 under Jim Hillier. They have won two out of three at home for Hillier, something they were struggling to do under Todd McLellan and this should be an opportunity to make it three in four. Pierre-Luc Dubois is clearly enjoying playing under Hillier with six points in the seven games, he had a single point in his last eight for McLellan and 20 in 48 games up to Hillier taking over. He and Quentin Byfield on the third line have been making hay and adding to the depth of the Kings.
It's been a horrible season up to this point for the Ducks with very few bright spots for fans to enjoy. No team has won fewer home games so they won't mind being on the road here at their closest geographical rival. They will be hoping to see David Rittich between the pipes here rather than Cam Talbot as Talbot has been a Duck killer, winning 12 of his last 13 starts against them. In four of their last six games, the Ducks have conceded five, five, seven and nine goals seeing them fall to 28th of the 32 teams defensively to go along with an offence that's only 29th in goals scored. Their most recent outing saw them lose 4-7 to the Columbus Blue Jackets who are bottom of the East and this is a much tougher task.
