Tenth seed Lorenzo Musetti will face off with compatriot and 24th seed Flavio Cobolli in the third round of the US Open. This is their first-ever meeting at tour level. Read on to find our prediction for this match.

Lorenzo Musetti has been in strong form this week and has won both of his matches with just one set surrendered. The Italian fought from a set down to defeat Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the first round.

He was more comfortable in his follow-up tie, outmuscling David Goffin by the loss of just six games. Musetti, the world number 10, is a two-time Grand Slam semi-finalist, achieving his latest feat at this year’s French Open.

Flavio Cobolli is having yet another strong run at a major this year. The 23-year-old recorded his best-ever finish at a Slam when he made the quarter-finals at this year’s Wimbledon Championships.

Now, in his second appearance at Flushing Meadows, he has equalled his best performance here. It hasn’t come easily, though, with Cobolli being forced to win both of his matches via a decider.

He eliminated the qualifier Francesco Passaro in the first round and then crowned favourite Jenson Brooksby. Advancing to this round has nudged Cobolli up to 24th in the live ranking.
