A mammoth fixture in the Champions League kicks off on Tuesday as 10th-placed Liverpool hosts fifth-place Real Madrid at Anfield. Who will come out on top in this clash between the Reds and Los Blancos? Check out our match prediction below!
We’ve already reached the halfway point in the UCL league phase with the fourth out of eight matches. Securing a spot in the top eight is crucial to avoid having to play the knockout round playoff. For Liverpool, they’re in a decent position with six points from the first three fixtures, trailing eighth-place Newcastle only on goal differential.
Every point is crucial at this stage as there will be fine margins in determining which teams advance directly to the round of 16. Madrid finished 11th in this stage last year and missed out on the top eight by a single point. They’re one of five teams with a perfect three wins from three, giving them a three-point buffer over ninth-place Barcelona. These two faced off last season in the league phase with Liverpool walking away 2-0 winners at home on that day.

Liverpool - Real Madrid: Form Analysis
Liverpool were finally able to stop the bleeding with a 2-0 home win over Aston Villa on Saturday. The defending Premier League champions were in complete freefall, losing six out of seven across all competitions which included four straight in the league.
Manager Arne Slot will hope that his team has turned the corner with the weekend’s result, but the Reds will have to build on that positive performance. Perhaps just as importantly, they managed to keep a clean sheet - something that has been a rare sight for the Liverpool faithful this season.
They had previously conceded in 10 straight matches, allowing a total of 18 goals during that stretch.
Real Madrid have a 17-1-2 record under Xabi Alonso in competitive fixtures.
Off the heels of their excellent 2-1 win over Barcelona in El Clasico, Real Madrid kept the momentum going at the weekend with a routine 4-0 home win over Valencia. Ahead of their trip to Anfield, Los Blancos have now won their last six games on the bounce across all competitions, scoring 16 goals whilst conceding just two.
Indeed, the Xabi Alonso era has been off to a fine start as Real Madrid currently sit atop the La Liga standings with 10 wins from 11 fixtures, as well as a perfect three for three in the Champions League.

Liverpool & Real Madrid Squad Analysis
Arne Slot is dealing with a few concerns ahead of this one with six players listed on the injury report. Most importantly, goalkeeper Alisson Becker. The Brazilian is nearing a return after suffering a hip injury at the end of September but isn’t expected to be ready for the visit of Madrid.
The hosts will also be without defenders Giovanni Leoni and Jeremie Frimpong, while record signing Alexander Isak misses out with a groin injury. Curtis Jones could be available for selection, but appears to be touch and go until kickoff.
Mbappe is the co-leading scorer in the Champions League with five goals in three appearances.
The primary focus for the Liverpool defense will of course be how to stop Kylian Mbappe. The 26-year-old has been on an absolute tear this season scoring in 15 of his last 17 matches for club and country and already having struck five goals in three Champions League appearances this season.
It’s not only goalscoring that the Frenchman is contributing though. Mbappe also leads the Champions League in chances created (16), four more than teammate Arda Guler who ranks second (12).
On the injury front, Dani Carvajal is still a few months away after undergoing knee surgery while Antonio Rudiger isn’t expected back for another month. The visitors could welcome back David Alaba after the Austrian missed Real Madrid’s last three matches.

Our Liverpool vs Real Madrid Prediction
There are worrying signs defensively for Liverpool, particularly in the fullback position where they look completely exposed. We’re not convinced that the Reds have solved their defensive woes and the likes of Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Bellingham should be able to exploit any weaknesses.
Liverpool have at least looked strong on the offensive side of the ball and generate plenty of clear cut scoring chances in their matches. With Salah finding some form and players like Ekitike, Gakpo and Szoboszlai playing well, the hosts should be able to find the net. Our Liverpool vs Real Madrid prediction: BTTS + over 2.5.Liverpool vs Real Madrid - Other Interesting Predictions
Kylian Mbappe anytime goalscorer
The Frenchman is in top form and just recently received the 2025 Golden Boot award. Amazingly, Mbappe has now scored in 15 of his last 17 matches for club and country, totaling 21 goals during this current stretch. He’ll have plenty of momentum coming into this match and a meeting with this extremely shaky Liverpool backline could be a recipe for goals. Back Mbappe to find the net here.
