Third seeded Daniil Medvedev faces unseeded Liam Broady for a place in the last eight of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open. The winner of this match takes on either fifth seeded Roberto Bautista Agut (the defending champion) or Chris O'Connell in the quarter finals. Medvedev began the week ranked eighth in the world but is down to tenth in the live rankings as he's due to lose points earned when reaching the Acapulco semi-final two years ago. Last week saw Medvedev win the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam, beating Jannik Sinner in the final. Previously this year he'd got to the last four in the first Adelaide International but lost in the last 32 of the Australian Open.

Liam Broady started this tournament ranked 147th in the world. That's 31 places below his career high of 114th achieved last February. He's up to 130th in the live rankings after winning three matches so far in Doha. He had two qualifying rounds to get through and did so with only nine games lost. That included beating Nikoloz Basilashvili who was the number one seed in qualifying. Broady continued his good form with a win over fellow qualifier Oleskii Kruykh but it took him three sets to do so. He won the first set 6-0 but needed a third set tie-break to set up this match with the third seed. Most of this year has been spent on the Challenger Tour and he won a tournament in Lithuania last week but didn't beat a player in the top 160. Back Medvedev to win this in straight sets.
