Leipzig’s season could come from bad to worse when they host Eintracht Frankfurt in the third round of the DFB Pokal. The two Bundesliga sides are coming off contrasting runs but the focus here will be on a quarter-final berth. Read on for our prediction of the match.
Hosts Leipzig had a bright start to the season and seemed like serious challengers for the Bundesliga title. That has, however, blown away and they come into this game on a very poor run.
Previously a solid side at their backyard, Leipzig are coming from a 5-1 defeat at home to Wolfsburg. That marked a sixth straight winless outing, with just one draw.
It has been a complete contrast for Eintracht Frankfurt coming into this game. The visitors are getting into a second month without tasting defeat. The last time they lost a match was in mid-October, falling 2-1 away to Bayer Leverkusen.
So far, that happens to be their only defeat in the last 17 matches and they carry to this fixture a run of seven straight wins.
Their 4-0 win at Heidenheim sent Frankfurt unbeaten in nine matches, and it presented their third clean sheet in five outings. In the last round of this competition, Frankfurt eliminated Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach.
