The Championship returns following a lengthy international break with third-place Leicester hosting 14th-placed Portsmouth for matchday 10. Will the Foxes continue their promotion charge or will Pompey prove to be a roadblock? Check out our match prediction!
Leicester suffered the drop from the Premier League last season and will have their sights set on an immediate return. The 2015-16 Premier League champions had a solid stretch in the top flight and this represents only their second season in the Championship in the last 12 years. Leicester are off to a decent enough start as they find themselves two points behind Middlesbrough and three points behind leaders Coventry.
As for Portsmouth, they marked their return to the Championship after nearly a 15-year hiatus with a 16th-place finish in the 2024-25 campaign. The goal this time around is simple: consolidate their position and secure a third straight season in the second tier. This will be the first meeting between these sides since the 2011-12 Championship season, during which time they played out a 1-1 stalemate.

Leicester - Portsmouth: Form Analysis
Leicester were finally able to snap a run of four consecutive draws after a 3-1 away win over Swansea before the international break. The Foxes are now on a seven match unbeaten run and will be looking to conserve their unbeaten 2-2-0 home record.
Their only losses this season came at the hands of Preston (2-1 away) and a penalty shootout loss to Huddersfield in the EFL Cup. The three goals scored in their last match is the most they’ve notched so far in the season and will be hoping the floodgates will open.
Leicester have been a tough team to contain, finding the net in nine of their 10 total matches.
Portsmouth pulled off a fantastic result in their last appearance, dealing second-place Middlesbrough their first league loss of the season in a 1-0 home win. That was their third victory of the season and snapped a five-match winless run across all competitions.
The visitors have put up some decent results on the road, drawing 1-1 and 0-0 with West Brom and Southampton, respectively. However, they struggled in their last away trip against Ipswich, giving up three clear cut chances en route to a 2-1 loss.

Leicester & Portsmouth Squad Analysis
The injuries have been piling up for Portsmouth boss John Mousinho, who has six players listed on the injury report ahead of this one. Among them are attacking midfielder Callum Lang, winger Josh Murphy and first-choice goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid.
The big loss comes in the form of Schmid who is out until late December with a broken hand. The 28-year-old Austrian had been performing excellently for Pompey before this injury, posting two man-of-the-match performances and keeping two clean sheets in four starts.
After Schmidt went down, Portsmouth would concede two goals in three of the next four matches.
Leicester City need more consistent production from their strikers.
Leicester manager Marti Cifuentes continues to search for a solution to his misfiring strikers. Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka have split the time playing up front so far this season, but have managed just a single goal between them.
The result could be Feyenoord loanee Julian Carranza potentially getting his first start of the season. The Argentine has made four appearances, all from the bench, and has yet to open his Leicester account.
On the injury front, Cifuentes only has three players out, although one of them is a key attacking piece in Stephy Mavididi. The Frenchman picked up a hamstring injury in the 30 September draw to Wrexham and is still a few weeks away from a return.

Our Leicester vs Portsmouth Prediction
It’s been a somewhat uneven start for Leicester but they should be encouraged about their position. Despite not playing at their best, they are still right there in the race for automatic promotion.
We question whether this Portsmouth defense, that has been leaking goals since the injury to goalkeeper Nicolas Schmidt, can keep Leicester from scoring at the King Power Stadium. Despite not having key man Mavididi, the Foxes still possess enough weapons to break through what will likely be a stubborn Portsmouth defense. Our Leicester vs Portsmouth prediction: Leicester wins the match.
