Nearly half the seeds in the women's draw at Wimbledon have already been knocked out. Amanda Anisimova bids to avoid joining that list as the 20th seed takes on unseeded Lauren Davis. The winner of this second round match will face either 11th seeded Coco Gauff or unseeded Mihaela Buzamescu. Anisimova may have Russian parents but they emigrated to the USA a few years before her birth, so no ban for Amanda. The American is playing at Wimbledon for only the third time in her career. Her best result was reaching the second round in 2019 so she'll hope to go one better this year. The world number 25 has already won one title this year. That came in Melbourne right at the start of the year. Only one grass court warm-up event was played and that saw her lose in the quarter finals in Hamburg to Simona Halep, who she could meet in the fourth round at Wimbledon if both get that far. The first round of this tournament saw her beat lucky loser Yuan Yue in straight sets.

Lauren Davis is the world number 102 and might be one who wishes there were some ranking points in this tournament. Her best ever ranking was 26th but that was five years ago. Three warm-up events on grass were played by Davis. They didn't go to well though with two last 32s and a last 16. It's not just Anisimova who did well down under in January. Davis got to the last eight in Adelaide but that's her only quarter final this year. Davis beat fellow American Madison Brengle in the first round of this year's Wimbledon . Her best performance in this Grand Slam has been the third round in both 2014 and 2019. This is her first match against Anisimova and it's the 20-year-old who can beat Davis to get through to the third round in straight sets.
