World number 71 Kei Nishikori and world number 125 Mackenzie McDonald will meet at the Delray Beach Open. This will mark their first encounter in four years and the winner will play James Duckworth or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round. Below is our prediction for the match.

Kei Nishikori has returned to Delray to end an 11-year hiatus. The former world number four won the title in 2008 on his debut. Nishikori, who has won twice before against McDonald in US-held tournaments, has compiled a 6-4 record.

He started the season with a runner-up finish in Hong Kong but hasn’t produced another deep run since.

Mackenzie McDonald made it to the semi-finals the last time he competed at the Delray Beach Open. That was in 2023 and it was the second time that he had advanced as far in the competition.

The 29-year-old returns to this event having compiled a 7-4 record to start the year. He has featured predominantly in the challenger circuit where he has produced a semi-final finish in Oeiras as his highlight.

McDonald, who defeated Nishikori on his way to the final in Washington, is making his main draw tour season debut. He begins his tournament having moved up four places to 119th in the live ranking.
