Katerina Siniakova will on Thursday battle fellow unseeded player Nadia Podoroska for a chance at the Ningbo Open semifinals. On her debut here, Siniakova has been in fine form, winning both her rounds without dropping a set. In her last match, she defeated third seed Sorana Cirstea by the loss of eight games. Before arriving here, the Czech number eight had lost seven matches on the trot and had a losing record for the season. She has now won, 16, the same number of matches as she has lost. Ten of her victories have come on hard courts where she has also been defeated 13 times. Despite her struggles, the 27-year-old has one tour title victory which came during the grass campaign. Siniakova has moved up seven places to 83rd in the live ranking thanks to her form here.

Nadia Podoroska has also moved up seven places in the live ranking and is ranked just above Siniakova at position 80. The Argentine hasn’t looked as sharp as Siniakova in Ningbo. In the last round, she was forced to come from a set down to win by the qualifier Valeria Savinykh. But as she has fared way better this season than Siniakova, Podoroska will fancy her chances of a win here. Though plagued by inconsistency, the 26-year-old has compiled a 32-26 record this season. She has won 11 of 21 matches on hard courts though her highlight came on clay as she won the Copa Oster. Podoroska is also making her debut in Ningbo. The winner will battle either top seed Ons Jabeur or wildcard Vera Zvonareva next.
