Britain's Sonay Kartal faces the qualifier Leolia Jeanjean in round one of the grass court Nottingham Open. In round two, the winner will be up against either eighth-seed Katie Boulter or 2024 WImbledon semi-finalist Lulu Sun. Here's our match prediction.

Kartal is a career-high 50th in the live rankings and will set a new best if she can win this match. Last week saw the 23-year-old from Brighton reach the second round at Queen's Club. Round one of that grass court tournament saw her beat Daria Kasatkina who's a top 20 ranked player.

The next round saw her beaten by the eventual runner-up Amanda Anisimova in straight sets. A win over Jeanjean will see Kartal into round two of this WTA 250 tournament for the first time in her career.

Leolia Jeanjean is the world number 94 and had to come through the qualifiers to get into this main draw. That was safely achieved with two straight sets victories over Heather Watson and Mika Stojsavjevic. Now the French player faces a third consecutive Brit.

The 29-year-old has never played in the main draw at Wimbledon, twice losing in the qualifying rounds. The wins she had in the qualifying rounds were her first grass court victories since 2022. We tip Kartal to end her run.
