Seventh seed Elisabetta Cocciaretto and the unseeded Kamilla Rakhimova will meet next at the Morocco Open quarter-finals. Kamilla Rakhimova is one win away from earning another semi-final appearance this season. The Russian made the last four in Bogota to begin her clay court campaign. Her performances on clay have boosted her immensely after a turbulent start to the year. Though she still has lost more matches than she has won, Rakhimova’s seven wins on clay have improved her record to 13-15. Clay is the only surface she has compiled a winning record on. The 22-year-old defeated the qualifier Camilla Rosatello in the second round. Their duel was cut short early in the first half due to an injury to Rosatello. The win moved her right back into the WTA top 100 where she is currently placed 98th in the live ranking.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto is having a better season than Rakhimova in terms of matches won. She has compiled a 17-13 record alternating between the top two levels of the women’s game. The Charleston Challenger winner has however not dominated at tour level. Before arriving in Rabat to make her debut, she had not won multiple main draw matches at a tour event this season. The Italian is yet to lose a set in this event, winning both her matches in straights. She defeated the unseeded Bai Zhuoxuan by the loss of six games in the second round. In the first round, she lost seven games to the wildcard and crowd favourite Yasmine Kabbaj. Cocciaretto, who has now won seven of 11 matches on clay, has moved up two places to 50th in the live ranking. The winner from this game will play Sara Sorribes Tormo or Mayar Sherif for a berth in the final.
