World number 111 Jule Neimeier and world number 106 Brenda Fruhvirtova will face off in the qualifying rounds in Rome. The winner of this first-round qualifier will play Oceane Dodin or Dalma Galfi for a place in the main draw. Jule Neimeier made her Italian Open debut last season but was unfortunate to lose in the first round. She will hope for a deeper run this time around. The German is coming off a runner-up finish at the ITF Wiesbaden on clay. This was her second runner-up finish of the year in the ITF circuit. Nimeier, who has compiled a 22-13 record, has alternated between the top three tiers. Her best finishes at tour level were in Linz, San Diego and Bogota where she made the second round. Brenda Fruhvirtova is going through a rough patch. She has managed just one win in her last four fixtures and is on a two-match skid. The Czech teenager was defeated in the first round in Madrid in her last outing. The straight-sets loss to Arantxa Rus marked her season debut on clay and came a month after she retired injured in Miami. Fruhvirtova is making her Rome debut and as a strong clay performer, she will hope to make it a memorable first appearance. The 17-year-old has compiled an 8-4 record and has featured predominantly in the tour. She however hasn’t gone past the second round at an event. The 15-time ITF champion arrives in Rome having moved up four places to 102nd in the live ranking.
