Jonny Tata and Ross Smith will lock horns on Saturday in the 2025 World Series of Darts finals first round at the AFAS Live in Amsterdam. The winner of this match between JT and Smudger will face either Nathan Aspinall or Dave Chisnall in round two. Let’s get into the match prediction.
Jonny Tata will be making his first appearance at the WSOD finals and is one of four players representing the Oceanic region. He qualified as the top-ranked player in his region.
JT has a handful of titles on the DPNZ Tour this year and received plenty of praise for his showing at the 2025 New Zealand Darts Masters, where he was only narrowly beaten by Gerwyn Price.
That defeat to Price was also Tata’s last televised match, and he is now 4-6 in his last 10 televised appearances.
Meanwhile, this is Ross Smith’s second WSOD finals in succession. Last year, he almost pulled off a massive shock in the first round against Luke Littler but was eventually edged 6-5 by the Nuke.
Smudger has enjoyed a solid year so far, headlined by winning the PC16 in dominant fashion, pinning two nine-darters, while four of his five opponents in the competition failed to win a leg.
Despite losing to Alexander Merkx in the third round of PC27 this week, Smith still has a positive recent record of seven wins in his last 10 matches.

Our Jonny Tata vs Ross Smith Prediction
Jonny Tata has made a name for himself by being one of the dominant forces in the Oceanic region. He now steps up in class but struggled to make much of an impact the last time he did so at the New Zealand Masters.
Ross Smith has notched up one Major title this year and has only lost three of his last 10 games - two of which were against formidable opponents in James Wade and Gian van Veen. We fancy the Englishman to get the win in this one. Our Jonny Tata vs Ross Smith prediction is Ross Smith -1.5.
