Saturday night is a big night in the future of Joe Joyce. The British heavyweight had been on course for a World Title tilt after winning his first 15 fights, earning impressive wins along the way over Bermane Stiverne, Daniel Dubois, Carlos Takam, Christian Hammer and Joseph Parker. However, a damaged eye saw him lose for the first time to China's Zhilei Zhang by 6th round TKO. A rematch was immediately organised but things went from bad to worse for Joyce when he was knocked out cold in the third round of the rematch. Now 15-2, the 6ft 5' heavyweight is fighting to revive his career as at the age of 38, he does not have the luxury of having time on his side to work his way back up to World title level. An orthodox right hander, Joyce is well known for his power punching, which saw him put down 14 of his opponents in his 15 victories.
Joyce will start as the huge favourite against 32-year-old heavyweight Kash Ali. The controversial 6ft 6' fighter was born in Birmingham but fights out of Rotherham in the UK and has a career record of 21 wins and just 2 defeats. 12 of his victories coming by way of knockout. Ali has never been knocked out in either of his defeats, losing by disqualification after biting David Price back in 2019 and then losing on points in his last fight with Bohdan Myronets back in July 2023. Despite similar looking records, Ali has not fought the calibre of opponent that Joyce has in his career and this is exemplified by the fact Ali is ranked 19th in the list of UK heavyweights and 183rd in the Box Rec world rankings. In comparison, Joyce is 4th on the British list and 8th in the Box Rec world rankings.
