Clay court matches bring out the best of Luciano Darderi, and he’ll be fearless as he faces Jiri Lehecka next. This first round match will also be the second meeting between them, the winner advancing to face Miomir Kecmanovic. Below is our prediction.

Seventh seed Lehecka should be the favorite here, but his recent form has left a lot to be desired. The Czech arrives for this match right from a second-round defeat to Lorenzo Musetti in three sets at the Monte Carlo Masters.

He will be keen not to fall against another Italian, but five defeats in his last six matches point to a player who is struggling.

Darderi comes into this match on a strong run and well-rested. He took a week-long break for recovery after winning the Marrakech title. In his last match, the Marrakech Open final, he saw off Tallon Griekspoor.

Having traversed between the tour and challenger circuits, that was Darderi’s second final on the bounce. He had earlier lost in the Naples Challenger. The Italian’s preference for clay is well documented.
