Sixth seed Jessica Pegula will proceed to the Wuhan Open final to face third seed Cori Gauff in an all-American affair. This match marks the seventh meeting between the two, and we have a prediction for it below.
Pegula staged a stunning comeback in the second semi-final, rising from a set down to hand Aryna Sabalenka her first ever loss in Wuhan. Pegula lost the opening set 6-2, but having contested seven three-setters before, she was never going to bow.
The 31-year-old has three titles so far in the season and will be contesting a WTA 1000 final for only the second time in 2025. She’s dropped at least a set in 12 of her last 13 matches and comes here fifth in the live rank.
Gauff, like her compatriot, was on a revenge mission in the semi-final. She had suffered three straight defeats to Jasmine Paolini in 2025 but went into the last four determined to stop the Italian.
She did so in straight sets, dropping seven games in the process, and is in line to add to her French Open title. That win also confirmed her for a fifth career WTA 1000 final and third such in 2025, after Rome and Madrid.
The American is only making her second appearance in Wuhan, her journey having ended in the semis on her debut. In five of her last six matches, Gauff won in straight sets and is third in the live rankings.
