Jesper de Jong will hope for another memorable French Open campaign when he takes on Francesco Passaro in the first round. The two meet for the second time in their careers, with the winner scheduled to face Alexander Zverev or Learner Tien. Below is our prediction for the match. 

Last season, De Jong opened his charge at Roland Garros with a win against Jack Draper. His giant-killing charge was stopped in the second round but not before troubling Carlos Alcaraz.

Having already tasted victory on clay against Passaro, the Dutchman carries into this game optimism. He had a respectable showing at the Rome Masters, only falling to world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the third round.

Passaro also got to the third round at Rome Masters before falling to Karen Khachanov. He then participated in the Turin 2 Challenger to stay in shape for Roland Garros.

The Italian has won six of his last 10 matches and will feel this is a beatable opponent. He lost his last match by way of retirement against Bu Yunchaokete in the third round.

One thing Passaro will have to address is his physical state. His loss to Khachanov in Rome was partly influenced by his fitness struggles before the same happened in Turin 2, forcing him to retire.
