A heavyweight match awaits at the Beijing Open when sixth seed Jasmine Paolini and third seed Amanda Anisimova face off. The two will clash in the second quarter-final, meeting for the second time in their careers. Read on for our prediction of the match.

There isn’t much to separate the two players, going by their records in the season. Paolini trails 0-1 from their previous meeting, and she will be gunning for revenge. Her season’s record reads 41-15 after her fourth-round win against Marie Bouzkova.

The Italian is yet to drop a set in Beijing and will be confident, having recorded a 5-1 run in quarter-finals. This is her third appearance here and her best performance, having only reached the third round earlier. She enters this round and places eighth in the live rank.

Anisimova is making a fourth appearance here and has improved in each. Before 2025 she hadn’t reached the quarters here. Like her opponent, who won the WTA 1000 title in Rome, Anisimova also has a 1000 title, won in Doha.

She’s been to four finals this season, including Wimbledon and the US Open. Having compiled a 42-16 record and winning 78% of her hard court matches, the American will be confident of taking a 2-0 lead against Paolini.

However, at 5-3, her record at the quarter-finals is inferior to Paolini’s. She has also dropped a set in Beijing and needed a tie-breaker once. This all means she’s played 45 more minutes than Paolini.
