World number 38 Jan-Lennard Struff takes on wild card Stan Wawrinka in round one of the China Open. The winner will face either top seed Jannik Sinner or unseeded Nicolas Jarry in round two. Here’s our match prediction.
Struff is playing his first match since the US Open. He lost in round one to Laslo Djere in a match that he led two sets to one. The German has lost his last two hard court matches and before that withdrew from the Paris Olympics due to injury.
He’s had a disappointing year on hard courts and is yet to win two successive matches in the main draw of an ATP Tour this year. His best results have come on clay and grass. He leads Wawrinka 1-0 in previous meetings with a three-set win on an indoor hard court.
