Iva Jovic, the 13th seed at the Canadian Open, will face the unseeded Magda Linette to start her tournament. Meeting for the second time this season, the two will face off in the second round. Our prediction favors Jovic, who has won all three previous meetings with Linette. 

Jovic will be targeting a sustained deep run in Toronto after a refreshing month-long break. The American last took to the court at Wimbledon, where she produced a commendable fourth-place finish

This year, Jovic has continued to rise in stature as a tour player. She has won 29 matches, leading to one tour final and three semi-final appearances. The teenager, who is unbeaten against Linette, is the current world number 16.

Magda Linette had to dig deep to avoid an opening round elimination on her return to the Canadian Open after a two-year absence. The Pole, who had arrived in Toronto having lost three matches in a row, fought her way from 1-0 down to defeat Carol Zhao. 

She has improved to a 19-16 record following the win and moved up one spot to 67th in the live ranking. Linette had a strong performance at Hertogenbosch, and that semi-final run remains the highlight of her season.
