Iva Jovic began her US Open campaign with a straight-set victory over World No. 41 Magdalena Frech before dispatching 104th-ranked Brit Francesca Jones 6–4, 6–4 in the second round. 

The California-born youngster holds a 2–0 lead over Alexandra Eala, with both victories coming on clay and grass courts respectively. She is 5–5 in her last 10 appearances on hard courts, and this is her first meeting with Eala on the surface.

Alexandra Eala comes into this clash with back-to-back straight-set victories as well, including a 6–4, 6–4 win over 46th-ranked Oleksandra Oliynykova in the second round on Thursday night. The Filipina sensation will be confident of a formidable showing despite setbacks in her previous two meetings with Jovic. 

She boasts an impressive 10–2 record in her last 12 matches on hard courts and has won five of her last six meetings with higher-ranked players.
