Ireland’s 2025 Autumn Nations Series continues on Saturday against Japan in Dublin. Can Andy Farrell’s side bounce back against the Brave Blossoms after their defeat to New Zealand? Here is our prediction for the match.
Ireland began their 2025 Autumn Nations Series on a disappointing note against New Zealand in Chicago last Friday. Lock Tadhg Beirne saw a red card in the third minute as the Shamrocks surrendered a three-point lead in the first half to fall 26-13 to the All Blacks.
Despite the Chicago setback, Ireland will head into Saturday’s matchup brimming with confidence. Andy Farrell’s side sit 10 places above Japan in the World Rugby rankings and have won nine of their last 11 tests.
After their blowout victory over Tonga in the Pacific Nations Cup semi-finals in November, Japan have endured a grim-looking record in their next three tests. They have suffered defeats in each of those tests, including a heavy 61-7 loss to South Africa in their most recent match.
Moreover, four of their most recent five encounters with Ireland have ended in defeats. These include a comprehensive 60-5 loss in their most recent matchup.

Our Ireland vs Japan Prediction
It's not a question of whether Ireland can bounce back against Japan on Saturday but by what margin. A significant 10-place gap separate the two teams in the World Rugby rankings and their recent results have justified the wide gulf between them.
Additionally, Japan have found results hard to come by against Ireland, with their most recent meeting ending in a heavy defeat. Overturning this poor record in Dublin will prove difficult for Eddie Jones’ men. We are not only tipping Ireland to win, but to do so convincingly. Our Ireland vs Japan prediction is Ireland -35.5 handicap points.
