Friday night in the NBA sees the Indiana Pacers hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers for this Eastern Conference clash. This also marks the beginning of the NBA in-season tournament with this game also counting as the first Group A match for these two teams. The Pacers got the better of the Cavaliers 125-113 as the away team when these two teams first faced off in Cleveland last week. They come into this game off the back of a demoralizing 155-104 defeat to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday. The 51-point defeat marked the second worst loss in Indiana Pacers history. They’ll have to quickly recover now as they return to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse where they are 1-1 on the season. Indiana shot an anemic 5 for 37 from three last season (12.5%) and struggled to get quality looks without their star point guard Tyrese Haliburton. The 23-year-old is looking likely to miss out on this one as well.
Cleveland were able to finally put an end to a three game winning streak in the team’s last appearance with a 95-89 away win over the Knicks. It was a much-needed result as things looked at risk of spiraling for the Cavs who finished fourth in the East last season with a 51-31 record. The Cavaliers will be out for revenge here and have a few key advantages on their side this time around. First of all, they will have star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell back for this one who is coming off a 30-point performance at Madison Square Garden. Additionally, Cleveland’s first meeting with Indiana came as the second leg of a back-to-back and their third game in a four day stretch. They come into this matchup with a full day’s rest after playing a home-and-home back-to-back two game series against New York
