Hubert Hurkacz had a tough match on Tuesday but managed to get through to this Italian Open quarter-final. He’s the seventh seed and faces 14th seeded Tommy Paul for a place in the last four. Whoever wins will take on either sixth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas or the 21st seed Nicolas Jarry. In the fourth round of this outdoor clay court tournament, Hurkacz had to come from a set down to beat 17th seed Sebastian Baez. That win took the Pole into his first quarter-final in Rome for the first time. It’s been a good tournament so far with wins over Rafael Nadal and 25th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry before beating Baez. He’s eighth in the live rankings but reaching the final will see him rise to seventh. He’s already won one clay court title this year and is 11th in the Live ATP Race.

Tommy Paul caused a surprise in the last round when beating defending champion Daniil Medvedev. Before this year he’d never made it past the second round in Rome. The American is up to 15th in the live rankings and a place higher in the ATP Race. He’s had a good year on hard courts but this is the first time he’s been past the last 32 on clay. His other two wins in this tournament have come against unseeded Aslan Karatsev and Dominik Koepfer and he’s yet to drop a set. He’s 1-1 against Hurkacz but this is their first match on clay. We tip Hurkacz to get the victory.
